Welcome to our 'mini' bike ride.

We're off again ! This time down to Falmouth in Cornwall. Mary Ann's son Jack is coming to the end of his 3 years at uni down there and we haven't ever seen the house he moved into for his second year ! Sal has to see it too as she is his Godmother and feels the need !
So we are leaving from Putney Bridge on Friday 9th March 2012. This is near the beginning of the UK cycle route 4 which ends in Wales. Actually we are jumping off at Bristol and then heading down to Glastonbury and joining Route 3 which is part of the Lands End to John O'Groats route. We should take 7 or 8 days to do it soooo Welcome to the ride.

Our charity page is still up and running. PLEASE don't feel obligated as we are well passed our target but if you are feeling flush........

Our chosen charity is Cancer Research UK. Anyone wishing to donate please go to:

We're half way !

We made it to Stanton Drew, 9 miles south of BRISTOL where my friends Ros and Rupert live.  Lots of hills at the beginning and end and a lovely gentle canal path then old railway track in the middle. We cycled the last 8 or 9 miles in the dark and the last couple of miles down a completely dark and hilly track!  when we left the railway track we were helped along the way and one nice chap took us nearly halfway to our destination. ....unfortunately for us he was a seasoned commuter and was able to climb a 3 mile hill at break neck speed. Sal and i were completely finished by the top but of course had to pretend we were perfectly fine ! Charlie Howell met us on the tow path in Bath and then took us through the centre of the city to get us to the tow path on the other side of the city. We must have been quite a sight....2 middle age ladies flying along in our bright orange and pink tops, behind a young lad with no saddle! We amazingly made it in one piece.  Another 52 miles completed.

  1. Bugger! Had I but known you were in our neck of the woods I would love to have come out and joined you for a stretch since Stanton Drew is just down the road from here. I could have warned you about the hills since this bit of the Mendips is where they did the 'Mountain' section of the recent Tour of Britain! Have a great time as you head down into Devon (also a bit hilly) and Cornwall. Watch out for those dangerous cream teas! Jony x
