Welcome to our 'mini' bike ride.

We're off again ! This time down to Falmouth in Cornwall. Mary Ann's son Jack is coming to the end of his 3 years at uni down there and we haven't ever seen the house he moved into for his second year ! Sal has to see it too as she is his Godmother and feels the need !
So we are leaving from Putney Bridge on Friday 9th March 2012. This is near the beginning of the UK cycle route 4 which ends in Wales. Actually we are jumping off at Bristol and then heading down to Glastonbury and joining Route 3 which is part of the Lands End to John O'Groats route. We should take 7 or 8 days to do it soooo Welcome to the ride.

Our charity page is still up and running. PLEASE don't feel obligated as we are well passed our target but if you are feeling flush........

Our chosen charity is Cancer Research UK. Anyone wishing to donate please go to:

Arrived in a car !

Well the elements beat me yesterday. I was on the A30 crossing Bodmin Moor. I had been advised against the original planned route crossing it from North to South because of the mini mountains in my way ! The wind was against me, none of the hills were pointing in the right direction, the traffic was fast and far too close for comfort especially the section where it became single carriageway. It began to rain quite heavily which then would you believe turned into a hail storm ! The hail storms came three times and on the last occasion i phoned jack to come and rescue me ! I had got to Bodmin, so completed 334 miles.
Jack was playing in a Rugby match in Penryn so we went straight there and i watched for a bit before setting off to Falmouth to find a B and B and here i am ! sitting in bed on Sunday morning having had my 'full English'
All is well . xx

  1. Hi again MA. I know that bit of the A30 well because my mother in law lives in St Breward, which is a turning half way across Bodmin Moor. Absolutely massive hills and, of course, the Cornish weather is never less than different. Since most of the wind comes from the west, perhaps consider doing the route from west to east next time! Well done for each one of the 334 miles. Be glad to join you for a stretch, if I can keep up. Jony

  2. Thankyou Jony ! I think my legs have grown 10 times bigger since the hills south west of Bristol. It was very tempting to go with the massive hills down the moor rather than the horrible road where the hills were gentler but relentlessly UP . It must be living there though. I am not a fast cyclist at all but I do seem to have a decent amount of stamina !
